Apple slides through its iPhone X event without any major surprises for Wall Street

We’ve noted before that Apple tends to follow a pretty consistent trend: the company has a big iPhone event, and the stock price doesn’t really do all that much because everyone knows what to expect. That was particularly true in today’s case, as we knew pretty much everything about both new iPhones — and it means that Apple was able to play out the story that it set… Read More

Making Waste Management Smart and Easy

Based in Pittsburg, PA., CEO Charles Yhap, VP Engineeing Tanner Cook and the CLEANROBOTICS team are developing technology to intelligently automate the recycling process.

In their own words (source – www.linkedin.com/company/10480183/)

At CleanRobotics, our dream is to make waste management smart. Our flagship product, the Trashbot™, will help corporations with dynamic and automated recycling. Welcome to a cleaner tomorrow. THE PROBLEM Recycling is hard. Rules change from place to place, new regulations are frequently introduced, and people are confused. Waste management remains the one process that corporations cannot measure or effectively sort. The burden of recycling is placed on individuals, and it is hard for busy people to get educated and keep up with the changing regulations. OUR SOLUTION What if there was a smart trash can that took care of recycling for you? You would no longer have to think about manually separating your recyclables. What if there was a Trashbot™ that took your waste, separated the actual trash from recyclable waste and dynamically updated your waste management processes with data on trash and recycling? Introducing Trashbot™, a robotic trash can combining next-generation robotics and sensor technology to automatically sort recyclables from everyday trash.

Senator says Equifax should offer customers free credit security freezes

Equifax’s handling of the massive data breach that affected 143 million people has been ineffective, Senator Brian Schatz wrote in a letter today (embedded at bottom of post) to Equifax. He says what Equifax has offered customers, a one-year complimentary subscription to credit monitoring, is “inadequate for several reasons.”
One year of credit monitoring, Schatz wrote, is… Read More

Venmo is offering users an (ugly) physical debit card

After Square unveiled a free debit card that would be tied to their Square Cash App, it was only a matter of time until we saw Venmo do something similar. Now TechCrunch has learned that Venmo is inviting some users to a beta program where they’ll be sent a card for free that is attached to their Venmo account. Users can pay with this card in stores and online just like a normal debit… Read More

Sequoia-backed CurioPets is Pokémon GO meets Tamagotchi

CurioPets, short for curious pets, is a multi-player, augmented reality pet simulator that launches tomorrow on iOS. Built with Apple’s ARKit, the aim is to encourage real-world exploration — similar to Pokémon GO — as you travel around with either a puppy or a kitten and take care of them, which is more like Tamagotchi and NeoPets.
