“What if there was a shoe that could adjust and expand—so kids always had a pair of shoes that fit?” | Kenton Lee

In their own words (https://www.linkedin.com/company/18239361/)

There are over 300 million children who do not have shoes, and countless more with shoes that do not fit. Learn how The Shoe That Grows is working to change that!

Because International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes that everyone living in desperate poverty, especially a child, deserves opportunities to succeed. Our mission is to use the positive cycle of innovation to fight the negative cycle of poverty.

Our first product – The Shoe That Grows – has been designed specifically for kids living in poverty. With shoes, kids are healthier, attend school more often, and are more confident. The Shoe That Grows has 5x the impact of ordinary shoes because it expands 5 sizes and lasts for years. Over 100,000 pairs have been distributed in over 90 countries, and with production starting in Ethiopia, we’re not only blessing kids with shoes but people with jobs. We’re committed to making things better by making better things and look forward to releasing our next product soon while also coming alongside local entrepreneurs to help them make their own innovative ideas come to life.

Over 1.5 billion people suffer from soil transmitted diseases worldwide

Without shoes, children are especially vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death.

Children who get sick miss school, can’t help their families, and suffer needlessly. And since children’s feet grow so quickly, they often outgrow donated shoes within a year, leaving them once again exposed to illness and disease.

The Shoe That Grows can change all that.

#OUREntrepidNetwork – Introducing The Nyle DiMarco Foundation and Their Mission to Improve the Lives of Deaf Persons

www.nyledimarcofoundation.com

Working to Ensure Deaf Children Receive the Same Opportunities as Hearing Children

In their own words (www.NyleDiMarcoFoundation.com):

Mission

The Nyle DiMarco Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists as a national philanthropic resource for all organizations, institutions and individuals working to improve the lives of every Deaf person in the world.

Current Priority Area: Deaf Children and their Families

The Foundation aims to improve access to accurate, research-based information about early language acquisition–specifically, the bilingual education approach. Through the early intervention process, the child’s language and literacy development should be the focal point.

Nyle and the Foundation are guided by the principle that every child deserves love and language.

Because the reality is that Deaf children can grow to be anything they want: firefighter or police officer, defense attorney or brain surgeon, elementary teacher or college professor, software developer or the creator of the next major social media outlet–or even an internationally recognized supermodel, actor, and dancing phenom. The key to unlocking a Deaf child’s future is acquiring language at an early age.

Nyle’s story provides validation: he was born into a multigenerational Deaf family and was taught American Sign Language and English from birth.

One of the Foundation’s objectives is to improve access to resources and information for parents of Deaf children and their families, so that when parents have these questions, they know where they can find answers.

Through partnerships with national organizations, such as Language Equality and Acquisition for Deaf Kids (LEAD-K), the Foundation promotes awareness on issues surrounding the importance of early language and literacy in Deaf children. The Foundation’s partnerships emphasize culturally-based, community-engaged, and innovative approaches in providing support and guidance to Deaf children and their families.

OUR Entrepid Network – Introducing Mary Maranville and Student’s for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SeeAG.org)

www.seeag.org

Opening Eyes to Agriculture

Mary Maranville founded Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) in 2008. Even with California’s rich agricultural heritage, children don’t make the connection between the acres of farmland around them to the food on their tables. This education program helps make that connection; providing kids with field trips to local farms brings the message home even further. (source – http://www.seeag.org/about/)

The mission of SEEAG is to increase the understanding of the food journey from field to consumption and to connect school children to farmland and gardens in their own backyard. This program is teaching kids why they need to care about plants, gardens and agriculture and is inspiring the next generation to become future agricultural managers and stewards of the land. (source – www.linkedin.com/company-beta/3710497/)

SEEAG also leads a STEM Careers in Agriculture program that targets junior high and high school students. Its Ventura County Farm Day is a community event in which over 20 Ventura County farms open their doors to the public.
